After our first spread of snow last week it has not only has prompted to reach for our fur hats and coats but given us the urge to get some winter white in the wardrobe, what better way as well to get advice on how work this into your look than asking Radiant Hour Style consultancy on how to do just that, if you have not yet heard we are hosting an event this Thursday from 7.30pm if you would like to join us so do RSVP if you are interested on joining us.

Kitten heels have made a rather ladylike re-appearance for AW 2010! Comfortable, tres chic and wearable with all of this seasons looks - we couldn't be happier about the return of the kitten as it means we can be right on trend whilst on the go!

We've fallen head over (kitten) heels about the Stella Mcartney collection of elegant and wearable fashions, including a fine collection of cute kitten heels to go with! Seen all over the catwalks and the feet of the fashion industry - we salute you Stella!

UGG vs Snowjogger

Autumn is definitely here (booo!)...Rain, wind and a drop in temperature has got us LauraJ ladies debating what we'll be wearing this Autumn Winter to keep our tootsies snug and toastie!

UGG have teamed up with Jimmy Choo to design a limited edition collection this season. Studded, tassled, knitted...you name it, Jimmy Choo and UGG have done it!

However, it appears they may have some competition in the 'must have' winter warmer department. Snowjogger are the design on everyone's lips (and feet!) and are going down a storm in LA amongst the fashionista's! We love the range of colours and styles from Snowjogger, and the rather lower price tag than the Jimmy Choo UGG's make them even more appealing.

So...UGG vs Snowjogger? At LauraJ London, Snowjogger gets our vote. In fact, we love them so much that we've got three gorgeous finishes coming in to the boutique in November! Oooooh, we can't wait!!

Are you sick of everyone having the same high street clobber? Fancy the Big C? (Customisation that is)...well I think that London based company Selve may be just the ticket. I hear on the old footwear grape vine that they are doing one of their infamous Trunk Shows at the Boundary Hotel, something that you definitely need to check out if you fancy some heels that you practically design yourself. Now I have been having a little look at their website and there are some great shapes coming out for Autumn Winter including these very on-trend boots.....

Oh and did I mention that you can even customise the sole? Erm...Louboutin-esque red anyone? I thought so.

The Trunk Show, where you can customise to your hearts content starts on Monday the 20th to Tuesday the 21st at the Boundary Hotel.

Don't laugh, it's green!

We have decided to go green here at Laura J and in doing so we have made the decision to pull the plug on our gorgeous purple bags in favour of something a little more earth loving. After much deliberation we settled on a white bag with Laura J London across the front in pink...much lighter, smaller and recyclable. Score. Then the other day I had to take a picture of one of our regulars out in the rain doing her bit to recycle the bag...not exactly what we had in mind, but it did make us giggle. If only all environmentally friendly projects were this amusing.

This week i've been looking at the graphic shoe stylings of Atlanta Weller. And man are they something! LFW is just round the corner and Atlanta is showing her SS11 collection. I'm intrigued to see the new designs as they are supposedly inspired by dominos and Logan's Run....erm, can't quite imagine what this will be like...space ages spots...too literal? This is why i'm not a designer. In any case I thought I'd post some of the amazing AW designs by the ever talented Miss Weller because they are too, dare I say it, "fierce" not to post...enjoy! x V

I have been browsing the Charlotte Olympia AW10 collection this week and I LOVE them...But there is one problem... I don't think it's possible to pick just one colour. Okay well if you twist my arm I suppose I could be forced to choose the emerald green pair.

Now whilst I was searching for them I found out a little fact that I suppose I should already know...the new Charlotte Olympia boutique on Maddox Street not only sells these rainbow beauties but also I hear that the door handles of the shop have been designed by no other than the king of all awesome jewellery Mr Dominic Jones! Mental note...must pay the new shop a little visit.

Lace and leather, camel coloured everything, bags that seem to have fallen out of Maggie Thatcher's cupboard and the return of the bootcut trouser; It would seem that fashion is having a "grown up" moment. Amidst the Celines and McCartneys of this world there seem to be a fair few sensible shoes around this season. I have to admit that I wasn't all too happy about this. I think I may have ranted before about the kitten heel so I'll hold my tongue this time, but in compiling my favourite shoe styles for the coming season I have to admit that some of the ones I will defintely be sporting this Autumn Winter are our own brand beauties and low and behold the heels won't send me rocketing into space. They aren't quite the average kitten heel but they are very stylish. My wish list for AW10 is as follows...

Shoe Museum...the Weird and Wonderful!

Laura J London is now featured on the Virtual Shoe Museum. Now the Shoe Museum is an online documentation of all manner of shoes, ours included. You can literally find anything shoe related on this site. From the avant garde to the glamorous to the outright weird. In fact one pair that I came across actually scare me a bit! These shoes, or "art", by German artist Iris Schieferstein are actually made from a dead horse. Now it is just me or are these majorly creepy...Now I like a bit of taxidermy as much as the next person but is this taking it a bit far?

I had to click on the Glam section just to calm myself. That's when I came across one of my favourite shoe designers Minna Parikka and I thought I would post these sweet but sexy turquoise numbers...ahhhhh that's better...phew!

We love love love Vintage here at Laura J. Finding that perfect piece can be really thrilling and can instantly transport you to another era. But I have to say that we are especially lucky with vintage here because we get to choose pieces from our vintage concession by the gorgeous girls at French Kiss.

I thought I would show you a few of my favourite pieces from the concession this month. And in doing so I can't not show you this denim jacket....LOVE the badges. I am pretty sure I had one exactly the same when I was four! In fact I was a big child...maybe this was mine!

Okay that's enough of picturing me as an elephant child...what do you think about these amazing pink courts....fab of course....who doesn't want a pair of pink shoes!?

Now whilst I'm on the subject of vintage I have to post this fab picture that Laura took this weekend. Zuleika's vintage stand in Camden Passage is a new addition to the stalls on the strip and she sells some great vintage pieces from Whistles and Prada. But as you can see from the snap the goods don't stick around for long. This is definitely one to add to your vintage stall radar.

Now if you can't get to Zuleika's stall in time and you are desperately seeking that perfect pair of vintage shoes you simply have to get down to Vintage at Goodwood (from 13th - 15th August). Any vintage lover worth their salt will be there...Laura J London ladies included.

If you don't know Iris Van Herpen's work, then start googling the hell out of her now. A thoughtful and interesting designer, her A/W 10 show, “Synesthesia” was inspired by the sensations felt in one part of the body when stimulus is applied to another part, her concepts never get in the way of beautiful and provoking yet totally wearable designs.

For the collection above, Van Helpen was approached by United Nude to do a collaboration and here are the outstanding results...

Bound to draw comparisons with the infamous Alexander McQueen 'Armadillo' shoes, but who cares! these are fabulous and imitation is the best form of flattery. United Nude continue to challenge my conception of them as a shoe brand, as mentioned before here on this blog, they have had quite a turn-around in the past couple of seasons, ditching the eames chair gimmicks and proving themselves to be a serious contender.

I was just going through my email inbox when I came across an email from Stateside shoe designer Kathryn Amberleigh. I decided to check out the website and I have to say, I really am not sure on this one.

On the one hand she has designed some really great pieces...I especially love these grey ankle boots

and the nude patent peeptoes are a classic...very nice.

But then I come to this ankle boot and I can't help thinking It reminds me of a washing up glove.

Having said that it is always nice to see new shapes...just maybe lay off the rubber look?

I know I should be talking about SS10 but it is hard to stop thinking about the shearling ankleboots by ASOS (sound horrible, but are very nice) and an amazing Dior cardigan with big blue bows that I saw yesterday. No, you're right, I should channel my shopping energy into something in the here and now... how about these...

NUDES IN SHOES

Now if you have ever been to our little home in Islington you will certainly have already seen the illustrative wonder that is the work of Sophie Stephens, what with the purple hand-drawn mural that covers the entire back wall of the boutique, not to mention other illustrations that pop up here and there, like our credit notes and window displays. So it was natural progression for us to be the venue for her life drawing enterprise.

And I can't really post this week without mentioning that the first installment went very well indeed. Wine, cucumber sandwiches and life drawing, with expert direction thrown in of course. Big Thanks to Sophie and watch this space for the next installment.

feel good footwear

Feel good footwear can be many things, these Engin white spike Louboutins for example would make me feel really really good this balmy friday afternoon,

But what about feel-good for the soul? (or sole where footwear is considered) I've been a fan of TOMS espadrilles since they served me well last summer, I like the immediate insouciance they give to any outfit and they remind me of my dad in france and of all frenchmen infact. Simple shoe, simple ethos, for every pair of TOMS sold, the brand matches and gives another pair to a child in need in Argentina, the country where creator Blake Mycoskie first took inspiration for TOMS from the traditional alpargata worn there.

Now with the arrival of these new wedges its even easier to make a small contribution, after blogging only last week about my desire for a lace - up espadrille similar to Alexa Chung, I think I may have found the perfect solution. Feeling good has never felt so cool...

Just back from New York and back to reality I suppose. But I do have shoe news.

1) I couldn't find many amazing shoe boutiques (obviously I wasn't looking in the right places).
But I did find a gorgeous boutique called Lori McLean that sold the best jewellery and ceramics...You can check out her online shop here.

I have always had a small, inexplicable obsession, a crush if you will, with one particular pair of shoes (probably because I will never own a pair)...
I tried these Kirkwood beauties on in Libertys when they first came out, oh yonks and yonks ago now, but to my shock the only size they had in stock was a 37 and I was left with my shoe grief to wander the streets of London. Isn't shoe grief the worst!? But alas I have recovered and I think I may have found a pair of boots I like even more....Maybe I just have an obsession with this shade of blue but I dare anyone not to be bowled over by these Giuseppe Zanotti booties.

New York Baby

I am officially on countdown to my New York holiday, which is fine because I fly a week today...eeeee (high pitched squeak. Can barely contain my excitement).

Now this is my first time to New York and I am desperately saving ALL my money to go on one massive shopping blow-out and in preparation of said bank account slaughter I have been looking up all the shoe shops in New York trying to find some of the best ones, but to be honest I'm not having much luck.

In the back of my mind I have this fantasy that somehow I will look for ever for the perfect NY pair and won't find anything so I will be forced to stumble into Miu Miu ......and in my dream they still have a pair of the printed platforms and I buy them and wear them round the Museum of Natural History looking at the dinosaurs.

Perfect day I reckon. Hey who knows this could come true!

Yesterday I went to Chelsea Flower Market for the first time, and then this morning I saw Andy Sturgens winning garden at Chelsea flower show, which is just lovely. And florals and faunas are lovely aren't they?

Guilty one Irregular Choice Toodle Loo Floral Rosette High Heel. Infact when trying to find a lovely floral shoe to go with my lovely floral post, I couldn't find ANYTHING I liked. I just kept harking back to these amazing Nike/Libertys collaborations from way back when in 2008 and sadly now out of action.

Beatrix Ong delivers neat, grown up styles season after season. Modern yet timeless and not without a little bit of edge, but definitely not blinging, I like these lacy numbers a lot.

This new trend for plastic accessories has me in a bit of a tizz. Never have I been so undecided on shoes. Do I love them, do I hate them? Argghhhh I don't know!

Plastic, see-through shoes and accessories are...well I don't know....they're a bit ugly aren't they? I know that Michael Kors and Prada have all had a bash at this and despite this I can't escape that niggling voice that says "aren't they like those jelly shoes that you used to wear on the beach?" (please no comments on this. I was forced to wear them).

Undoubtedly they do look better than the horrible jelly shoes from back in the day, but I think they're not for me. Besides they wouldn't do anything to protect me from the hazards of the English seaside, or any pavement for that matter.

I do quite like this Fendi clutch though. Ill put my ice cream money in here. Now all we need is the sun to stick around.

Chanel Resort 2011 Slips the Net

We were all feeling very sheepish today when we realised we had let the Chanel Resort collection slip past us unnoticed. How could we miss something so important?

Especially after last year, where we saw these beautiful nautical numbers. I personally was expecting great things....

But I have to say it was all a little disappointing for shoe lovers this time around. The only thing on offer seemed to be these coral flats. Even the models didn't want to wear them. What a shame. Nice dresses though.

Here at Laura J we are all so on trend...sadly by this I mean that we are all sporting the AW10 catwalk "socks and cut-out shoes-combo". What is with the weather? Weren't we supposed to have April showers? But no, April was glorious so we all packed away our winter garb in hope that the cold was so passé. So now with the current meteorological disturbances we are all forced to take a leaf out of the Book of Prada AW10 and are donning our socks.

Does it count as "on trend" if the socks are covered in cutesy patterns? So far this week we have seen owl socks, lipstick socks and heart socks. Fashionistas watch out, here at Laura J we take the trends and rework them (maybe not always the best thing to do)?

I went and got my marriage licence from Hackney council today, turns out me and my beau aren't related so its on with the show! Which proms the question - good bridal footwear. I went way over my budget with the dress and the plan was to splash out on some designer shoes, This is what I, personally think would look super dooper peeking out of a little oyster silk...

top of the list and coming in at a fairly reasonable £380, I luuuurve these by my mui mui.

I am also seriously considering brogues, but they have to be PUUURFECT brogues, like these church's at £210, not for everybody, but they would look amazing with a vintage dress or an english tea party style, plus the future mr sophie is only about 1 inch taller then me so...

I really like these people. Christian Louboutin £370, I think its the matt soft laces against the glossy, glossy matallic, a weird hybrid of twenties tennis shoes and disco. Love em.

so yes. thats what i'll be getting if I decide to splash some (more) cash, if you've got a bigger budget, Louboutin are always pure, unadulturated glamour and really are special occasion shoes, If you've got the dosh (£1,250 ) I recommend picking up these vintage inspired beauties,

or these givenchy's are pretty sexy..
personally i'd rather spend the money on the bar. So if I don't go designer, heres some other, more purse friendly options..

top two by Kurt Geiger, bottom two by Office, fun and silly, I think it's a bit more interesting to have a pop of colour kicking out from under the hem - but then again, i'm all about the shoes...

I love these ones, available here for £195 the python looks butter soft and my thirst for dusty pinky nudes is fairly satisfied also. I'm not exactly Nicole Richie's biggest fan, being a brat and rudeness are qualities that least endeavor me to a person (surprisingly does any one like these qualities?) although maybe she's mellowed since that horrible TV show. I'm certainly not a fan of her LA boho look of HUGE sunnies and MAH-HOOSIVE bag, but yes, impressive accessories line Richie. well done.

I have spent the day playing at being Laura J London's "reporter in the field" and have nabbed front row at AFW (which really should be known as Awful Footwear Week; So many girls stumbling down that catwalk with ill-fitting cheap shoes, with stickers still on the bottom...come on people!)

I'm pretty faithful to my wedges, and up until now there has never really been a contender for my affections and hard earned cash. I like my shoes CHUNKY! but seeing these on Jaeger shoes on shoewawa this morning made my heart skip a beat.

chunky but with elegance, the platformless front that so usually accompanies this style is missing giving this style an up to the date edge. They remind me of a pair of (friend of the boutique) Kat Maconie shoes that I fell in love with recently and have been meaning to blog about for ages...

Whats happened to United Nude? its S/S 10 collection is so brilliant! i've always kinda hated them especially their famed style the eamz...

the heel is just too kooky they smack of gimmick, inspired by the eames chair, (why did they add the 'z' ? to be more yooof ?) I imagine the people that buy these describe themselves as 'wacky'. ANYWAY! enough with the slating because all is forgiven as I want so many pairs for my wardrobe, especially this one, the heel on the Stealth Four Strap is architectural and modern and has beautiful form without looking like a door stop,

similarly with these 'Frames' - unusual without being gimmicky, they're so beautiful

so, we had the 'big drop' last week, and I thought i'd wait a little while to introduce all the spring stock to see what was the most well received, and the great London public has voted. Lets start with my personal faves...

introducing the 'Mortise' - so flippin' coooool! I love the zip detail and the black is going to look fab giving a floral dress some edge in the Summer. The blue has actually sold better which is great, I think people are just dying for a bit of sun and are putting their most optimistic foot forward.

these have also been flying out of the boutique 'the Frame' i'm just waiting for my legs to get used to fresh air after a long winter in jeans and tights before I get these bad boys anywhere near my pins, then I reckon I'll wear them with everything. The mortise is now also sold in Poste Mistress as well as the Islington Boutique

It's been a tough ol' day at the shop, with a massive delivery of S/S 10 Laura J London shoes and one missing box, we have to wonder, what shoes would put you in that good, Friday night mood? It is THE BEST for silly, silly shoes and I want about 5 pairs, behold - the bordello teeze in purple which i'm going to get for my brother-in-law's wedding next month...

which I think is why they also bring to mind Holly Fulton's AMAZING first collection at Fashion East which I was very lucky to see first hand, and was inspired by architecture and the Empire State Building

Laura J London's designers were actually also inspired by architecture for S/S with each shoe being named after an architectural discipline

It was this months vogue cover that did it, and the effortlessly cool Alexa Chung... Clogs. Another new fad that I had previously rebuffed and now desperately needed (see gladiator sandals, harem trousers and even, many moons ago - leggings)

Central St Martins started off a little to intellectual and structural for me, but then the last two designers turned out to be my favorites so far, check out these beautiful shoes and delicate pleating on these...

my rubbish detective skills cannot find the designers individual names anywhere? which is a little odd and unfair in equal measures but here is the other standout designer,

King Kane, naturellement...

Richard Nicoll showed a de-lish collection, I loved the long tube skirts and graphic tee's and the fab stripper style shoes...

the typically wonderful space goth padded chic from Louise Goldin...

and the usual stuff from Dame Viv, nothing too original but I still want every pair of shoes and every item of clothing showed...

Personally I find NY fashion week a bit of a bore, there are few shows I look forward to, Rodarte never fail to excite though, I find them very refreshing and I love their personal stories that they weave into their collections, this season they were inspired by their Mexican routes, and the layered shoe/sock combo used throughout the show was just dreamy...

not surprising when another noted influence is the idea of sleepwalking. Nicholas Kirkwood is indeed a shoe genuis, I hope he continues to collaborate with Rodarte for many more seasons to come as it seems here he has the chance to try something a bit different to his own line instead of pleasing his devoted platform fans all the time.

Proenza Schouler goes from strength to strength and showed a KILLA collection, with neat buttoned up shirts and jewel furs, I WANT IT ALLLLL! the shoes where a perfect balance of ugly-beautiful - LOVE IT!

I know for a fact that the other girls in the shop will hate these last two images, so here's a little Louboutin for 3.1 Phillip Lim to ease the pain...

I just want to say a massive thanks to everyone who made the Vintage fair amazing. We got fabulous press for the event in the likes of Vogue and Esquire! Thanks especially have to go to the amazing Bella De Jac for doing her fan dance in the window. The whole day was such fun that we HAD to share the pictures with you.

Our vintage valentines fair is going to be SO MUCH FUN tomorrow, vogue.com featured it in the news section this morning, so we're expecting a lot of high heeled feet through the door. Burlesque dancer, Bella De Jac is acting as our living breathing mannequin, performing on rotation her famed fan dance, we have vintage galore from French Kiss Vintage, hand made undergarments and nipple tassels from Bannbee and retro valentines jewellery from Lady Luck Rule OK. Make up artist, Lucy Freeman is also on hand to help you with that perfect 5o's flick and as per usual the Laura J London lovelies will be here to to help with all your footwear needs.

if only Andy Warhol had lived to see these designs by Andreia Chaves, I think he would retract his statement, because these beautiful pieces are art for your feet, and Andy, I NEED them!

The 'invisible shoe' works much like that car in 'Die Another Day' (totally crap 007 movie with Madonna) in that the mirrored surface reflects its surroundings.

This 'prism shoe' is so stunning, I love the way the structure stands away from the foot, in the same way a hat doesn't have to hug the head, and is worn for both adornment and practicality against cold weather, Chaves is showing shoe design in a completely new light.

I wonder whose going to snap up this talented Brazilian first, I can see her designs working so well both editorially and commercially.

To Wedge or not to wedge?

The merits of the wedge have been long debated here at Laura J with a distinct split between the lovers and the haters (personally I would pitch my tent in the LUUURRRVE camp), though don't tell, it is an offense worthy of a disciplinary.

Joking aside I hope that the gorgeous Dior SS wedges will unite our two sides in a no-mans land of shoe perfection. And so back to the question; To wedge or not to wedge? The answer; Wedge in a compromise!

She had these gold boots on that she wears everywhere, they're pretty special, and probably almost definitely vintage. I never thought i'd say this, maybe its this never-ending winter we're having, but i'm starting to think pastels maybe really, really cool. It started off when I first saw these beautiful shots from W magazine's January editorial, 'Run of Show'. I would be happy with a whole wardrobe of dusty pinks and nudes, and I would banish my black jeans forever for a piece of S/S 10 mui mui, it is Muiccia Prada's best collection EVER! I want it all, especially the shoes. Ahh, here's to sweet pastel coloured dreams...

Always a personal fashion highlight for me - the John Galliano spectacular that is the Christian Dior Couture Show, images and review from the utterly brilliant Sarah Mower went up on style.com yesterday and here are my faves, I really love a white shoe or boot, so these Edwardian spats booties go top of the wish list, i'll take the matching outfit too, and the red riding ensamble for those weekends in the country. tally ho!

Us chicas at Laura J London really don't do shoes that work in last weeks weather, trainers yes, ugg boots, no. Wellington boots, ONLY ONCE, and very regrettable, but my pride and bottom was getting bashed (note to self - vintage soles are very slippery when teamed with ice. weird.)

So why exactly does Irregular Choice make an ugg boot look, but without any of the practical elements that warrant wearing the bloody things. Behold! these really hurt my eyes people. How can one boot take so many bad things, brown buckles, tweed, clog - like soles, legwarmers damn it! and put them all together. These are the type of things Jodie Marsh used to wear before she was a biker lesbian.

Okay so how could I resist? I would HAVE to go and see Pamela in the Aladdin pantomime. It wasn't a fun day out...this would be research...for the blog of course and for the intense study of THOSE shoes!

But oh the disappointment! No Pammy! No shoes! This is false advertising. I ended up watching Anita bloomin' Dobson as the genie. And let me tell you...her shoes were rubbish! It's like going to watch Sherlock Holmes because oh so dishy Robert Downey Jnr is in it and instead getting Robbie Coltrane....There's been a MURDER Watson.

I'll get over it soon! Back to the shoe research.

So! me and Vicky have got just under two hours left on the shop floor, just opened a lovely bottle of pink bubbly given to us by the wonderful Michaela at Lady Double You which reminded Vicky of this, kinda odd, collaboration from Christian Louboutin and Piper Heidsieck. The heel of the glass reminds me of my dream NYE McQueen crystal boot from yesterdays post. This crystal drinking shoe is reviving the nineteenth century Parisian tradition of drinking Champagne out of a ladies shoe, which is just so debauched and bananas i'm thinking I may try it tonight myself (cue getting slung out of the club at ten to midnight...) Anyhoo, if you've got higher or indeed any respect plus £350 to blow on a fancy flute, I advise you get thee to Selfridges and try it out yourself.
