NUDES IN SHOES

Now if you have ever been to our little home in Islington you will certainly have already seen the illustrative wonder that is the work of Sophie Stephens, what with the purple hand-drawn mural that covers the entire back wall of the boutique, not to mention other illustrations that pop up here and there, like our credit notes and window displays. So it was natural progression for us to be the venue for her life drawing enterprise.

And I can't really post this week without mentioning that the first installment went very well indeed. Wine, cucumber sandwiches and life drawing, with expert direction thrown in of course. Big Thanks to Sophie and watch this space for the next installment.

feel good footwear

Feel good footwear can be many things, these Engin white spike Louboutins for example would make me feel really really good this balmy friday afternoon,

But what about feel-good for the soul? (or sole where footwear is considered) I've been a fan of TOMS espadrilles since they served me well last summer, I like the immediate insouciance they give to any outfit and they remind me of my dad in france and of all frenchmen infact. Simple shoe, simple ethos, for every pair of TOMS sold, the brand matches and gives another pair to a child in need in Argentina, the country where creator Blake Mycoskie first took inspiration for TOMS from the traditional alpargata worn there.

Now with the arrival of these new wedges its even easier to make a small contribution, after blogging only last week about my desire for a lace - up espadrille similar to Alexa Chung, I think I may have found the perfect solution. Feeling good has never felt so cool...

espadrilles available from office here and the new wedges direct from the TOMS website.

I LOVE NY!

Just back from New York and back to reality I suppose. But I do have shoe news.

1) I couldn't find many amazing shoe boutiques (obviously I wasn't looking in the right places).
But I did find a gorgeous boutique called Lori McLean that sold the best jewellery and ceramics...You can check out her online shop here.

2) It is fair to say that I was living the dream in NY and although I didn't come back with the swallow print Miu Mius I did find a mega bargin...Nobody told me the Barney's Sale would be so much fun! Louboutin, Miu Miu, Prada, Jimmy Choo, Alexander Mc Queen, Camilla Skovgaard. You name it, they had it...for HALF PRICE...So I did come away with these.......I LOVE THEM! And they make me about 6ft! Please all be jealous.

Jessica Simpson shoes are actually good!

Yup! you read that right kids, when perusing the brilliant 'The Shoe Girl' blog, I first became aware that la simpleton did shoes, I thought I'd go check out the online boutique so I could do a cruel and mocking post here, but the jokes on me it would seem, as I love them! above are my top picks from the collection. As you can see, they are very L.A, read, fun, bordering on tacky but utterly wearable and even a little bit cool, for example, I genuinely am lusting after the tan suede ones second from top. Just don't go near the hideous flip flops or even get me started on the range of dresses, but this is a shoe blog, and its the shoes she's done well...

Who would of thunk it peeps?

couture shoes

We are massive fans of a certain miss Marloes Ten Bhomer because we work very closely with her on our own Laura J London line, if you don't know her work, shame on you. To say she is avant garde is putting it mildly, Sharp structural forms seem to come as much from the innovative new technology and processes as from creative inspiration.

Told you. A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. now Marloes has an online boutique where you can purchase the same handmade couture pieces that have been featured in museums and exhibitions worldwide, a sure future design classic. Below are some of the styles on offer, let your eyes drink em' in, cause I think they would be as beautiful in a box on display as on your feet.

tee pee chic

In honour of our good friend Becky, who designs the coolest shoes EVER (i'm actually wearing her brogues now) and is getting married tomorrow in Cornwall in a tee pee field, this post is embracing everything Pocahontas.

These beauties are from ASOS.com, obvious, yes, but hang on, we're just warming up... also from good ol' ASOS, I love these by Adam Duffy for the modern tee pee dweller. this look from Roksanda Ilincic's fall 09 collection is very warrior princess...

and finally I love these from Alaia at net-a-porter... very bridal pocahontas methinks... perfect! hope the sun holds out for you becky and you have the best day ever. S.x

oh sweet lord...

Blame it on the Chung (a lady who features far too much on this blog, but I can't help it. she's adorable) I was trying to find these espadrille wedges online...

I used to be made to wear these on holidays to Spain and now I really want a pair, but they are surprisingly hard to come by, as I don't want 'fash-wan', sky high espadrilles, I want mumsy! so I thought to look on the natural shoe store and I am SO GLAD I DID! I would never of chanced upon these beauties otherwise...

Sweet Jesus. my eyes are burning. These couldn't even work in an editorial way, as they're just too 'off', the mottled leather, the scuba sock effect bought on by the seamless shape, EVERYTHING.

Who would wear these? if the answer is you, they're yours for a toe curling £175.00. Fer-lippin' bargain.

Permission To Grieve? Nah, Nevermind

I have always had a small, inexplicable obsession, a crush if you will, with one particular pair of shoes (probably because I will never own a pair)...
I tried these Kirkwood beauties on in Libertys when they first came out, oh yonks and yonks ago now, but to my shock the only size they had in stock was a 37 and I was left with my shoe grief to wander the streets of London. Isn't shoe grief the worst!? But alas I have recovered and I think I may have found a pair of boots I like even more....Maybe I just have an obsession with this shade of blue but I dare anyone not to be bowled over by these Giuseppe Zanotti booties.
To Die For!

New York Baby

I am officially on countdown to my New York holiday, which is fine because I fly a week today...eeeee (high pitched squeak. Can barely contain my excitement).

Now this is my first time to New York and I am desperately saving ALL my money to go on one massive shopping blow-out and in preparation of said bank account slaughter I have been looking up all the shoe shops in New York trying to find some of the best ones, but to be honest I'm not having much luck.
In the back of my mind I have this fantasy that somehow I will look for ever for the perfect NY pair and won't find anything so I will be forced to stumble into Miu Miu ......and in my dream they still have a pair of the printed platforms and I buy them and wear them round the Museum of Natural History looking at the dinosaurs.

Perfect day I reckon. Hey who knows this could come true!
Or I could wake up in flats (still in the museum of course) and realise that all I've bought is an
I Love NY t-shirt.

Ah well...watch this space. And if anyone knows THE destination for shoes in the Big Apple do get in touch...

boots to beat those rainy blues

The designers at Laura J London are clever old souls. They know British Summers are full of rain and puddles and disappointment, that's why we're the only shoe brand on the high street to produce these....

A proper fabulous and glamorous alternative to that other British summer guarantee - the welly! The gray version has patent leather running around the rim of the sole, providing dry feet in this truly rubbish start to June. And some good news? these beautiful 'Newall' boots are in our mid - season sale and are down from £279 to £195. Just don't go wearing them to Glastonbury ya' hear...
